As we departed from Germany today, I swore I could feel the presence of my parents, Doug and Sally, as we soared high above the Alps. That moment caused a flood tears, the result of a variety of emotions, grief, pain, loss, sadness, but also happiness and joy. When we bought our home in Larimar I had no idea the effect that spectacular view from our own private beach would have on me. While gazing into the beautiful skies over Lake Erie, I realized that heaven really wasn’t so far away. I decided that every time Chris and I take a seat at the lakeside fire pit and gaze into the clouds, heaven really isn’t so far away after all. Today, as we flew over the mountains and make our way to Italy for week number two of our honeymoon, I saw heaven from my window in the beautiful blue skies, the majestic mountains, the whispy white clouds, and the radiant beams of sunshine. While I physically cannot hug my parents, I can take a small comfort in knowing that they too are winging their way alongside us, providing gorgeous weather, quiet moments of reflection, and safe travels.
I sit here now, with tears flowing freely down my face, Chris, my husband of just four months next to me, holding my hand and whispering words of love and comfort. The sunshine has opened a little crack into my soul, allowing the grief to slowly escape and the joy to seep in.
